Simulated case

SwissBorgSOL Earn exploit.Covered bythe treasury.

In September 2025 about 193,000 SOL, around $41m, was stolen from SwissBorg’s SOL Earn program through a compromised API at its staking partner Kiln. SwissBorg covered affected users from its own treasury.

iClaim was not involved in this case. It is one of the 100+ incidents we’ve simulated our claims process on. All figures come from public reporting.

01

What happened at SwissBorg?

An attacker manipulated requests to the staking API of Kiln, SwissBorg’s staking partner, and moved about 193,000 SOL out of the SOL Earn program. SwissBorg’s own app was not breached, but its users’ staked SOL was gone.

02

How were users covered?

SwissBorg said it had the resources to absorb the loss and committed treasury funds to reimburse affected users, while it worked with security firms and law enforcement to trace the stolen funds.

03

Why does it matter?

Few platforms can cover a loss this size from their own balance sheet. When they can’t, a claims process and a market for those claims are how users get paid.

Timeline

  1. Sep 2025

About 193,000 SOL is moved out of the SOL Earn program through Kiln’s staking API.

  2. Sep 2025

What does this case show?

  1. 1

    Third-party risk is real

The loss came through a partner’s API, not the platform itself. Users still looked to SwissBorg to make them whole.

  2. 2

A strong treasury is the fastest fix

Covering the loss directly meant users were not left waiting on recovery efforts.

  3. 3

Not every platform can do this

For platforms without the reserves, a claims portal and a secondary market are the way to get users paid early.

SwissBorg committed to reimbursing affected users from its own treasury after about 193,000 SOL, around $41m, was stolen from its SOL Earn program in September 2025 through the API of its staking partner Kiln. About 1% of its users were affected. Platforms without that kind of balance sheet usually need a claims process instead.
