Where can you sell a claim with iClaim?

On a marketplace built for your case, or on the iClaim secondary market. Either way, buyers set the price and you decide.

Best for: creditors in a case with a live marketplace.

  • A firm price from buyers
  • Built for one case
  • Paid when the sale settles

Market listing

Your claim is verified and listed on an iClaim market, where buyers bid on it.

Best for: sellers who want buyers to compete and have time to compare bids.

  • Buyers bid against each other
  • Compare bids before you decide
  • Accept only the bid you want

How do the ways to sell a bankruptcy claim compare?

There is no single best option. It depends on how fast you need the money and how much risk you want to keep.

Should you sell? The iClaim Sell-or-Hold Test

Four questions to answer before you decide. The more of them you answer “yes”, the stronger the case for selling now.

  1. 1

Do you need the money within a year?

Distributions in large cases often take years. If you need cash sooner, waiting has a real cost.

  2. 2

Is there still no distribution date?

Without a date you can’t plan around the payout. A sale replaces an open-ended wait with a fixed date.

  3. 3

    Could the recovery go down?

Lawsuits, disputed claims and new creditors can all change what the estate pays. A sale fixes your price today.

  4. 4

Is this claim a large share of what you own?

If one claim is most of your exposure, selling it reduces the risk you carry.

Sell now or hold: run the numbers

Compare a bid today with what waiting could pay, in today’s money.

Cash if you sell now
$5,500
Expected payout if you wait
$8,000
That payout in today’s money
$6,011
Bid that matches waiting
60.1%

On these numbers, waiting is worth more, if your estimates hold.

Illustrative only. It leaves out taxes and fees, and the recovery can land above or below your estimate.

How does it work?

Three steps either way. The platform handles the legal and operational work in between.

  1. 1

    Submit your claim

Register it on the claims portal: the debtor, the amount, and your proof of claim if you filed one.

  2. 2

    Get verified and listed

The claim is checked and listed on the secondary market, where buyers bid on it.

  3. 3

    Sell and get paid

Accept a bid, sign the assignment, and the transfer settles through the platform.

  • Sold my Terraform Labs claim

“Whole process took maybe 10 minutes. Verification call was smooth and payment landed within 2 days. I’ve been through FTX claims with other providers. This is on another level. Best experience I’ve had with a claim service so far.”

  • Finally closing the Terra chapter for good

“I sold my Terra claim through TerraClaim, and honestly, the whole experience was better than I expected. The process speed was really good, and the responsiveness too: every question I had got answered fast, no waiting for days like with other services. Matthieu and Finn really helped me a lot through every step. After everything that happened with Terra, I can finally close this chapter for good.”

Questions about selling a claim

Anything else, write to us with the details of your claim. hey@iclaim.xyz

It depends on what you need. Sell if you want cash now, or don’t want to carry the risk of delays, disputes and a lower recovery than expected: you get a fixed price and the buyer takes on the wait. Wait if you can afford to, and expect the estate to pay out more than buyers offer today. If you sell, list the claim and let buyers compete for it, or use a marketplace built for your case, like TerraClaim for Terra Luna claims.

Claims against insolvent companies and protocols: corporate bankruptcies, crypto exchange failures, DeFi exploits and protocol collapses. Send us the details and we’ll tell you whether there’s a market for your claim.

Buyers bid on your claim. The price depends on the claim amount, the expected recovery and how long the case is likely to take. You see the bids before you decide, and you don’t have to accept any of them.

When the sale settles, not when the estate distributes. Timing depends on the case and its transfer process.

It helps: a filed and allowed claim is the easiest to sell. If you haven’t filed, or your claim isn’t allowed yet, send us the details and we’ll tell you what’s possible.

The seller signs an assignment agreement with the buyer. In US bankruptcy cases the transfer is then recorded with the court under Bankruptcy Rule 3001(e); other jurisdictions have their own process. The paperwork is handled through the platform.

The buyer takes your place as the creditor and receives any future distributions. You keep the sale price, and the buyer carries the wait and the risk.

Selling is final: if the estate later pays more than your sale price, the buyer keeps the difference. Claims that are disputed or not yet allowed sell for less, or not at all, and some transfers need a court filing before they settle.

No. iClaim builds and runs the markets. The buyers are institutional investors and funds who bid on verified claims; on the Terra claims marketplace, institutional buyers fund each purchase.
